DESCRIPTION

The federal prison in Phoenix includes a medium-security prison for males and an adjacent federal prison camp for women. The women’s camp is supposed to be a pretty good option. I was at the male prison for about week when I first began serving my sentence. The prison was clean and it seemed okay by my standards. But I always understand that prison would be what I made of it. I’m hoping to publish more reviews from more prisoners. If you’re going to the male prison or to the women’s federal prison, consider sending us your review to benefit others.

User Reviews

  • 1. My name is:I would rather not mention my name.
  • 2. I arrived on:September of 2016
  • 3. I’m scheduled to leave on:I finished my prison term on November 20, 2016
  • 4.My judge sentenced me to serve how many months? I was sentenced to serve an eight-month sentence for a white-collar crime.
  • 5. In the past, I’ve been confined at the following institutions:I’ve never been in prison before the time I surrendered to the federal prison camp for women in Phoenix.
  • 6. I was convicted of the following offense:I was convicted of 1 count of unauthorized access to a protected computer. It was a misdemeanor but my judge still sent me to the women’s federal prison camp in Phoenix.
  • 7. Pros of the facility:Counselors were friendly in the Phoneix federal woman’s camp. They went out of their way to help. The women’s camp is a minimum- security prison. There isn’t a lot of trouble or danger. The Camp Administrator had an excellent open-door policy, always willing to listen and help an intimate. At least that was my experience.
  • 8. Cons of the facility:The Case Managers were rigid and unapproachable. I didn’t see any Mental Health Counseling. The Camp focused on RDAP. Women wanted to get into RDAP so they could get out one year early. But many didn’t qualify. If they didn’t qualify for RDAP, they women kind of fall through the cracks.

I thought the healthcare at the women’s camp was terrible. We had to push staff to get treatment outside of facility

When men’s facility went on lockdown, the women’s camp went on lockdown. That was a bummer.

If you do not have a special exception you will get granted the maximum halfway time.

  • 9.Food assessment of the facility:Had salad bar, rest of food horrible. Served cake for breakfast to get the calories required. There is a Ladies menu but the warden will not approve because it is more expense than the men’s menu.
  • 10.Recreational opportunities at the facility:Terrible running track right next to practice firing range, so when practice taking place could not go out. 4 old cardio machines, no structured classes, 1 set old rusty weights
All facilities outside in the 110 degree dessert heat
  • 11.Programs available in the facility:The typical religion stuff otherwise none unless you are in RDAP
  • 12.Best jobs in the facility:Car service to drive intimates to appointments and to bus stop. Library, Camp Administrator offices to do clerical work, Warden Offices to do clerical work, Recreation Office, and if you have a college degree teaching the GED classes. If you want to teach make sure during your PSI you have them document and check your college degrees
  • 13.Living Quarters in the facility:4 buildings, RDAP has 2 of their own buildings
Expect to start in a hall cot, then progress to a hall bunk bed before you finally get your own room.
    Private Showers and bathrooms
    1 microwave per a building
  • 14.How would I assess safety in the facility? :Good you learn where to not go and who not to hang with. Do not go in private bathrooms in library or rec room. Walk the track in the dark.
Not many fights mostly girl type trouble, shouting, name calling, reporting each other to the counselor stupid stuff. Stealing stuff from each other’s room. Dumb girl stuff.
I did see fights but you stay away and they are immediately removed and sent out.
  • 15.What types of pressure did I feel in the facility?:To pay someone to do your laundry and clean your room.
Almost impossible to do your laundry unless you pay another intimate. The laundry room is run by the professional laundry people who get paid to do peoples laundry and do not cross them.
  • 16.What is my general review?:Would not have lasted for a long sentence.
Noting to do all day unless you are in RDAP
Mostly white collar and RDAP crimes.
Security low from 4pm till 7am only 1 CO on duty.
Trouble makers quickly get identified and sent out. I don’t really have anything to compare it to, so I’d give it a six or seven on the scale.
  • 17.On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d give the facility a rating of:7
  • 18.Personal Blog:I don’t have anything more to say about the federal women’s camp in Phoenix, except don’t go to prison!
