Creative Contributions: Channeling Past Experiences into Positive Outcomes
In the tapestry of life, every thread, no matter its color, contributes to the overall picture. At Prison Professors Talent, we believe in the power of transforming past experiences, even the darkest ones, into positive outcomes. Our course, “Preparing for Success after Prison,” embodies this philosophy, guiding individuals to channel their experiences into constructive paths.
My personal journey intertwines closely with this belief. During my 16th year of incarceration, while confined in the Fort Dix Federal Prison, I married Carole in the visiting room. We’ve now been married for longer than 20 full years. It’s a relationship that few thought would be possible.
Who gets married in prison?
Some attribute my marriage to sheer luck. Indeed, I was fortunate, but this fortune was a result of a conscious decision made during my time in prison – to prepare diligently for a successful life upon release.
Had it not been for early preparations, I never would have earned university degrees in prison. If I hadn’t earned university degrees early in my term, I would not have succeeded in opening relationships with publishers. Had I not begun publishing books, I would not have built upon my support network, with thousands of students in universities. One of those students prompted my relationship with Carole. We fell in love, and I’ve been the most fortunate man alive–even though I served multiple decades in prison.
Carole is now a master’s educated nurse. But she works with me full-time in developing our nonprofit. Together, we work tirelessly to demonstrate how a person can convert past adversities into avenues for positive change. Our partnership is a testament to the power of shared vision and resilience.
Transforming Challenges into Opportunities
Our journey is not just a love story; it’s a narrative of transformation and hope. It exemplifies how adverse experiences can be channeled into creating something meaningful and impactful. Carole’s transition from a healthcare professional to a full-time partner in our nonprofit is a vivid example of this. Her expertise and compassion add immense value to our mission of empowering justice-impacted individuals.

Through mentorship, education, and support, we aim to light the way for those reentering society, turning challenges into opportunities for growth and success.
Together, let’s weave a new narrative where past experiences become the foundation for a future filled with hope, purpose, and positive contributions.
