Jurisdiction included oversight of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and U.S. Auto industry, professional and amateur sports, current issues affecting the U.S. consumer, and trade and tourism issues. Key role in the Committee’s investigation of Enron, anti-doping measures in professional sports, reform of U.S. Boxing, the U.S. Olympic Committee, developing Corporate Reform legislation, legislation on fuel efficiency thru Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards (CAFE), increasing access of generic pharmaceuticals to the marketplace, the Do-Not-Call list, and SAFETEA-LU.
