Earning Freedom Paperback

Earning Freedom: Conquering a 45-Year Prison Term

Readers will find value in learning that a deliberate strategy can lead to success after struggle. This book helps a reader build hope, showing how early decisions can influence a successful journey that pursues the same path.

Readers accompany me on a journey. It begins on the day of my arrest, August 11, 1987 and concludes with the day that I transfer to a halfway house, 25 years later, on August 13, 2012. The story includes the ups and downs, including going through a trial, being found guilty, sentenced, and then the odyssey of a long prison experience.

Readers see the adjustment through prisons of every security level, and the ways to make progress. This book shows how to maintain a high level of energy and discipline while going through challenging situations, over a sustained period of time. It is an excellent resource for anyone who is in jail or prison and needs hope.

Prison One Day

Prison: My 8,344th Day

The first book in our series, Earning Freedom, offers insight on maintaining a positive mindset and developing strength through struggle. It’s a big book, covering more than 25 years in federal prison. As a companion book, Prison! My 8,344th Day, readers get insight on the importance of getting through a single day while climbing through challenging times.

I wrote this book during my 23rd year of imprisonment. The story shows the deliberate choices I made every day. It begins with the moment that I opened my eyes in the morning and concludes with the time that I lay down to sleep.

Readers learn how I made choices, and the ways that those choices influenced the possibility for new opportunities. This book is an excellent resource for someone who is beginning a term in jail or prison. By showing a single day in prison, the book helps readers appreciate the relationship between where they are today, the decisions they make, and what they aspire to become.

Triumph Paperback

Triumph! The Straight-A Guide to Conquering Imprisonment

The culture in jails or prisons can decimate a person’s spirit. I wrote Triumph! The Straight-A Guide to Conquering Imprisonment to help people find their way if they’re living in challenging times—particularly if they’re confined.

This book reveals the importance of developing the CEO Mindset. In other words, a person must begin by defining success—given the challenging circumstances of the moment. If a person can see the best possible outcome, the person can begin building a methodical strategy to overcome.

I wrote Triumph! To show how a disciplined adjustment can open opportunities for incremental achievements. This strategy carried me through 26 years as a federal prisoner, and I used the same strategy to begin building a career upon my release. I recommend this book for any reader that wants inspiration and hope while living in challenging times.

Success After Prison: How I Built Assets Worth $1 Million After Prison

Description:

Jails and prisons can decimate a person’s sense of hope and fulfillment. The rigid structure requires people to participate in all types of activities that leave a person feeling as if he or she is a puppet, without any control over the future.

I wrote Success After Prison to change that perspective. This book shows how decisions while in custody can lead to new opportunities. Readers will see how the deliberate adjustment strategies described in Triumph! The Straight-A Guide leads to new opportunities.

Readers find hope as they learn about the first few years of my liberty. Despite serving longer than a quarter-century in prison, immediately upon being released I leveraged success. I began acquiring real estate and building businesses. By accumulating assets valued in the millions of dollars, I easily exceeded expectations that anyone would have for a person who served a lengthy term in prison. Readers will see how they can succeed after prison, provided they lead a disciplined adjustment pattern inside.

Ten Steps to Success

Ten Steps to Prepare for Success from Jail or Prison

Description:

Many people languish while they serve time in jails and prisons. The institutions do not offer a sufficient number of courses or programs that interest a person. For that reason, I created Ten Steps to Prepare for Success from Jail or Prison.

Unlike the books above, which I wrote in story form, this project is a self-directed workbook. It includes ten chapters. Through those ten chapters, I show the methodical, disciplined strategy that a person can use to overcome the challenges of confinement. More importantly, the participants train themselves to begin working toward the goals that they aspire to achieve upon release.

Ideally, a person would work through this project together with his or her support group in the community. That way, the project becomes interactive. People that want to overcome the challenge and stigma of confinement should think about the obstacles they will face in the future. By defining success, they can reverse-engineer a strategy that will help them restore confidence and self-esteem. This workbook is an ideal resource to teach and inspire anyone serving time inside of a jail or prison.

Earning Freedom Journal

Daily Journal Course

People in jail or prison sometimes face the complication of making progress. Sensing negative influences, people lose hope. For that reason, I created the daily journal course. Although participants may join for a single month, I encourage participants to enroll for the entire duration of their confinement.

The daily journal course includes a new book for every month of the year. Each day of the journal includes a lesson. Those lessons reveal strategies that I learned from leaders. They help us build a stronger mindset. By participating, we develop better critical-thinking skills and we learn to become better communicators. Simultaneously, we get to record our progress.

Participants get a new workbook to record their daily journey. Each workbook includes approximately 20,000 words of lessons. Besides that, they get to build a solid record to show how they’ve pursued a self-directed path to success. They can use these workbooks to overcome challenges of imprisonment, and also use them to leverage new opportunities upon release. Videos on the order page show precisely how to use the Earning Freedom Daily Journal Course.

Ten Steps to Success

Sentencing Preparation Course

Anyone who faces a charge that could potentially result in the loss of liberty should learn more about how to prepare for sentencing. Although the person may have an attorney to help, in reality, once authorities make a person a “defendant,” that person needs to start preparing.

This course will teach a person what he or she should know about the sentencing process. Each module in the course includes a video. We help the person understand the different stakeholders in the process and how the proceedings unfold. We explain the sentencing guidelines and the presentence investigation report. Then, we offer templates, or samples, a person can use as he works to present himself to the judge.

The videos in the order page offer more insight on why preparing for sentencing is such an important responsibility. We encourage participants to watch those videos and to research our team at Prison Professors long before the sentencing hearing. This course will help a person who is self-directed. If they want more personal guidance, we recommend that they work with one of our sentence-mitigation experts.

This digital course is available for immediate access through our web-based platform. It includes the learning modules, videos, and sample documents to help. Separately, we’ll offer opportunities for participants to participate in webinars with our sentence-mitigation experts. Please watch videos on the order page to get a full understanding.

Earning Freedom Journal

Sentence Mitigation Course

If authorities charge a person with a crime, everything changes. The person suddenly becomes a “defendant.” That changed status means that all stakeholders will consider the individual through a different, more prejudicial lens. They may no longer see common humanity. Instead, they’ll look at the individual as a criminal.

A person should not bury his head in the sand and ignore this reality. Rather, a person should take action, investing time, and energy to begin sowing seeds for a better outcome. We designed our sentence-mitigation course for this specific purpose: to help stakeholders in the criminal justice system see the positive aspects of an individual. By working through the course, the participant develops a better understanding of the people he or she will encounter. Those people include a prosecutor, a probation officer, a judge, and prison officials.

We offer self-directed exercises that will help a person develop a comprehensive sentence-mitigation strategy. Each module includes lessons and critical-thinking exercises. We provide samples as well. Please watch all of the videos on the order page to get a better understanding of how the sentence-mitigation course can help anyone that is willing to invest the time and energy to prepare.

Ten Steps to Success

Character Reference Course

A sentencing judge will definitely want to learn more about a defendant. At the soonest opportunity, every defendant should begin thinking about how he will influence that judge. Our sentence-preparation course helps the judge hear from the defendant, but the judge will also want to hear from people that know the defendant best.

We created our character-reference course to help people get ready for sentencing. The course includes lessons on the importance of a character reference letter, including what not to express. Each lesson includes a video, where we describe the salient points to consider. We also include sample templates that a course participant can use to both reach out to potential references, as well as sample templates that others can follow if they want to see compelling letters that have influenced a judge’s perception.

Please watch the videos on the order page to get a better understanding of character reference letters. This course is a great resource for any person that potentially faces a sentencing hearing.
